New Legislation Website Launched
At www.legislation.gov.uk people will for the first time be able to find details of everything on the UK statute book in the same place, for free.
The site will be an invaluable resource for anyone looking to cite legislation in a personal or professional capacity from lawyers and officials to citizens wishing to scrutinise the laws on which their legal rights and responsibilities rest.
The site is designed to replace the OPSI and Statute Law websites which currently host the database. Each act is shown in its original and revised versions and a historical timeline feature enables users to see how it has evolved over the years.
Lord McNally, Minister of State and Deputy Leader of House of Lords, said of the website, “This is the public’s statute book. Legislation.gov.uk presents complex information in a clear and intuitive way. This groundbreaking work puts democracy at the heart of legislation and makes a major contribution to the government’s transparency agenda.”
This new official site covers all legal jurisdictions (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and provides details of amendments and changes. A dashboard on the website’s front-page provides links to new and commonly requested laws and enhanced searchability makes it easier to pinpoint individual pieces of legislation.
Each act comes with an integrated table of effects and details of any outstanding effects yet to be applied.
